The people that were slaughtered at this site were accused of killing one of the cattle station owner's cows. Punishment for Aboriginal people back in the early days was death. Station owners hired gardiya (white people) and Aboriginal trackers from different groups to do the dirty work if they couldn't track the accused down. The old people who know many stories for this country said: "Back in the early days gardiya people (white people) used to treat black fella worse than a dog. They were real cruel bastards to black fella back then. But today we learning how to work together, gardiya people a lot better". |
